Young Achiever Award (YAA)

2023 MJSTASE Young Achiever Award Accepting Applications

Established in 1994, the annual Monte Jade Young Achiever Award (YAA) has recognized more than 300 outstanding Chinese-American high school students, in their junior and senior years, for their exceptional achievement in the following categories:

  • Outstanding and Excellence on Academic

  • Leadership

  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics)

  • Special Talent

  • Community Service

  • Innovation and Entrepreneurship

  • Inspiration

  • Other Merits

The online application for YAA 2023 starts on July 23 and the applicants need to submit all required documentation by September 09. The YAA recipients will be announced at the end of September and will be invited to the award presentation ceremony at the  MJSTASE 2023 annual conference, to be held in November 4th. Their photos and bios will be featured in the MJSTASE annual Yearbook.

The YAA application is similar to most of the college application requirements. Applicants may take advantage of this opportunity to have an early start in the preparation of college application.

Submission and Deadlines


We will start accepting YAA online applications on July 23, 2023. Applicants need to submit the required documentation no later than 11:59 pm, September 09, 2023


After submitting the form, you are still allowed to come back to make changes until September 09.

Applicants should use the following way to submit the supporting documents:


  • Drop the files (in Word, pdf or jpg/png format) to the Google Drive folder assigned to the applicant; the link will be emailed to you after the online application form is submitted.


It is preferred that recommendation letter and transcripts be electronically scanned and upload to the Google Drive folder assigned to the applicant; the link will be emailed to you after the online application form is submitted.


However, if the letter provider would like to send directly to us please either mailed to directly from your school and/or teacher/coach. or if email is not possible, please mail the documents to:

MJSTASE Young Achiever Award Committee, consisting of five judges, will review the applications to decide the award recipients. The final award recipients will be announced at the end of September 2023.

Submission and Deadlines

Important Notes


  • Applications from previous Young Achiever Award recipients will not be accepted.

  • All the award recipients are required to attend the award presentation rehearsal ceremony at the MJSTASE 2023 Annual Conference, which is planned for early November this year. The award will not be given to the absentees.

  • Talent performance at the award ceremony is highly encouraged for the award recipients. 

  • Young Achiever Award is open to the children of the MJSTASE members. If the parents are not members, one of them needs to join MJSTASE by clicking Here.


Required Documentation

Applicants need to submit the following supporting materials to be considered:

  • The online application form on Google Form 


The following documents will need to upload to Google Drive folder that will assign to you via email: 

  1. A recommendation letter from your high school teacher, counselor, extracurricular teacher or coach

  2. An essay in 500 words or less summarizing your achievements, leadership skills, community service, and future career goals

  3. A resume

  4. A brief bio in 100 words or less for MJSTASE Annual Conference Yearbook

  5. A three-minute video clip to introduce yourself, your interests, hobbies, and future goals (be creative!!)

  6. A digital copy of a recent photo (passport size: 1.3" width preferred)

  • A video clip, recording, pictures, other relevant media or a combination of these items that pertain to your artistic discipline (Special Talent Award applicants only)

  • A copy of your SAT, ACT, or PSAT score (Outstanding and Excellence Award applicants only)

  • A copy of your most recent high school transcripts  (Outstanding and Excellence Award applicants only)
