Hosted a Corporate Visit to GeneCure

Members of MJSTA-SE visited GeneCure, a start-up biotechnology company founded by Dr. Frank Tung, on February 24th, 2007. Dr. Tung first welcomed the visitors with an informative presentation, explaining to the audience how genes can be modified to cure human diseases.

Dr. Tung also briefly described the history of GeneCure. GeneCure was founded in 1999 and have obtained five US patens. In addition to conducting researches on gene therapy, GeneCure also contracted research works for the National Institute of Health (NIH). GeneCure’s drug research lab meets the standards of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Following the presentation, members of Monte Jade toured the new research center of GeneCure. Dr. Tung described to the visitors what various equipments in the labs were and how these equipments were used in their researches. Many of the visitors were from the biotech community, and were very interested in Dr. Tung’s presentation and the research works at GeneCure. At the end of the tour, they stayed around Dr. Tung, wanted eagerly to converse with him. The visit concluded successfully at 4 pm.

美東南玉山科技協會參觀GeneCure

美東南玉山科技協會會員們於二月二十四日參觀了由董耀宗博士創辦的生化公司 GeneCure. 董博士先為大家介紹用基因代替來治病的原理, 董博士指出, 病毒有一點特徵就是病毒能夠改變人體細胞的基因, 因此一種治病的方法是把病毒當做一種工具, 利用病毒來治療因基因有缺陷而產生的疾病, 也就是用病毒來把改良過的基因重新引入人體, 來取代那些有缺陷的基因. 董博士也介紹了GeneCure的歷史. GeneCure 創辦於1999, 到目前已取得四, 五項美國專利. GeneCure除了研究基因治病的方法, 也幫美國健康總署(NIH)做研究. GeneCure 擁有符合美國食物藥物總署(FDA)的藥物研究實驗室.
在董博士的介紹之後, 玉山的會員們參觀了GeneCure的新的研究中心. 董博士為大家介紹了各種研究的器材以及研究的方法. 數位參觀的朋友們均是生化學界的人, 因此對董博士的介紹, 及GeneCure的研究非常有興趣, 在參觀之後又與董博士交流了許久. 這次的參觀到四點圓滿的結束. |
